CRITTER: Chickadees
I find it dangerously easy to overdose on chickadee photos. It is not always a simple task to get them to sit still in the wild. They come in several "flavors." These are Black-capped Chickadees, common over the northern US, photographed near our second home in Illinois.
October 21, 2014:
Although I've seen them, I have no photos yet of the similar Carolina Chickadee. This one in Illinois looked very pale white on its sides and seemed to be smaller, but this is north of the range of the Carolina Chickadee. It is a Black-capped Chickadee, I must assume.

The Chestnut-backed Chickadee is a beautiful representative of this genus that I saw in the Redwood Forests of coastal California, but that was before I had a camera.

There are also Mexican and Gray-headed Chickadee species, respectively too far south and north for me to hope to see them!
