    Thanks all! @'Tsuki & Cathy-- I was not that close to the eye. Maybe you can see from my reflection that I was standing on the driveway with my camera on a monopod looking up at the squirrel, which was about 7 feet high in the tree. My telephoto lens system is 420 mm f/5.6 so I was able to crop the photo rather severely to reveal only the squirrel's eye.
